News and discussion groups for English literature topics
Newsgroups or discussion groups (known also by various other names such as discussion forums, message boards, and online forum, bulletin boards) work in a similar way to electronic mail. Instead of writing messages to individual users, participants post their messages on a news server where other members of the group may read the messages and respond to them.
There are many thousands of such groups; here I've listed some resources that may be of use for English literature research.
- Literary studies listservs and newsgroups
- This is the most comprehensive listing of literature newsgroups I've found. Part of the excellent Voice of the Shuttle website.
- Topica discussion lists: Books and literature
- Containing several hundred mailing list links, this page is part of Topica which claims to be 'the leader in e-mail discussion groups'.
- The BookWire Index: Newsgroups
- Another comprehensive listing of literature newsgroups.
- Google Groups
- Search for relevant groups such as rec.arts.books and alt.literature.
- The Alliance of Literary Societies
- The Alliance comprises a number of separate literary societies, each concentrating on an individual author.
