Preface

The Australian Library Publishers’ Society was founded a decade ago to market the publications of several small library publishers, and to encourage publishing of this type in Australia. Of our twenty-five members, all except for the University of the South Pacific are in Australia, and the catalogue of their publications exceeds four hundred titles. In addition to libraries, our members include library associations, library schools and small independent publishers of library-related material.

Most of our publishing activities are non-profit, and as such it is not easy to achieve exposure in bookshops even though the publications themselves are valuable resources. ALPS is linked with the International Group of Publishing Libraries, and through that affiliation we are able to make some contact with overseas markets.

We have published our catalogue on the Web, thereby extending information about our publications. Many members have their own websites.

You can search our site at

www.library.adelaide.edu.au/ual/publ/alps

There are about one hundred new publications or editions in the fifth edition of the catalogue, which is an indication that library and related publishing is alive and well. The range of subjects is extensive, and the publications cover bibliographies, conference proceedings, videos, CD-ROMs, and textbooks. As is to be expected, Australian and Pacific studies features predominately in the listing.

This catalogue is designed as a trade catalogue, for easy selection purposes, and therefore does not contain the usual indexes of a bibliography.

It is with pleasure that ALPS presents its fifth catalogue of the publications of its members, and trusts that the quality and variety of publications presented will be of use and value to those interested in Australian studies.

All prices quoted in the catalogue are in Australian dollars, except for the University of the South Pacific which is in Fiji currency.
